Something about Somerset
The name of Somerset originally described the people who lived around Somerton, a former capital of Somerset, sited on the edge of Sedgemoor. Somerton itself means 'summer farm'.
The county of Somerset traditionally stretched from Exmoor to the outskirts of Bristol. The ceremonial county of Somerset includes two authorities, North Somerset, based around Weston-super-Mare, and Bath and North East Somerset, based on Bath.

Shepton Mallett prison is the oldest prison still in use, its first buildings having been erected in 1610.
Arthur Wellesley, the first Duke of Wellington, took his title from the Somerset town of Wellington, close to the Blackdown Hills, where is a large monument to him.
